Things just happen in Russia in a unique way that I’m not sure can ever be explained. Like how a fucking meteor landed in the middle of the Russian wilderness and resulted in the equivalent of a nuclear bomb going off but no one really even noticed.

also a lot of those practical skills were taught in classes like home ec that have been cut completely as schools slash all spending not related to sports and STEM
Also-also, a lot of these skills were not taught even to people who took home ec. The only sewing-related thing that my home ec teacher taught us was how to make a skirt. And we all sucked at it. She never taught us how to sew on buttons or how to mend tears in clothes.
